MARMARA SHIPYARD Launches New Vessel

KOCAELI, TURKEY, July 11, 2012 — YM MIRANDA’s launching ceremony was performed at 4 pm on July 10, 2012. The chemical tanker of 12,500 dwt was built in Marmara Shipyard located in Körfez, Kocaeli. Binali Yildirim, the Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications participated in the occasion.
Ercan Topaca, Governor of Kocaeli; Ibrahim Karaosmanoglu, Mayor of Kocaeli Metropolitan Munipalicity; AK Party Deputies of Kocaeli; Ayhan Zeytinoglu, Board Chairman of Kocaeli Chamber of Industry; Ali Riza Yildirim, President of YILDIRIM Group; Alp Malazgirt, Ph. D., the Chief Executive Officer of YILDIRIM Group also joined the ceremony that took place in Marmara Shipyard.
Emphasizing the development of shipping, Binali Yildirim cited that “Turkey has improved its economy and its transportation threefold, which relies upon the overall success in shipping.”
Mr. Yildirim pointed out that Turkey was ranked as fifteenth among thirty countries that undertook the global shipping trade and cited that the level they reached was never considered adequate, on the contrary, it was inception. He added that Turkey had potential to surpass its recent performance and Turkey’s recent transportation was aimed to increase fourfold, minimum in accordance with Turkey’s 2023 goals in shipping already determined.
After the speeches of Mr. Topaca, Mr. Karaosmanoglu and Mr. Yildirim, the contributors received plaques. Afterwards, completed within two years, the vessel was launched. The vessel was reported to run at a speed of 13 kn, with a weight of 8,900 GT. |
